Tip #14: Strategic Skills

Here is an interesting question for you to ponder, “If culture eats strategy for breakfast, what's the role of strategic skills in developing managers and leaders?" While the application of strategic skills will vary depending on your place in the organization, there are three distinct yet interrelated practices to developing this skill set:

  1. Strategic Thinking: a vision of where the organization's going

  2. Strategic Planning: create a plan, including milestones and goals that moves toward vision

  3. Strategic Execution: coordinate resources and people to make the vision come to life
