Building A Cohesive Team

Building a cohesive team – that’s the topic for our Leadership Minute.

Great teams are made up of team members who share a mission and purpose, understand the work of the team, value individual talents, and have clear and compelling performance goal.

Patrick Lencioni, author of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, states, “Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare.”

Lencioni’s parallel paradigm to building great teams identifies five distinct issues that are often addressed in isolation. However, they form an interrelated model, making susceptibility to even one of them potentially harmful for success of the team. His framework for building cohesive teams and impacting decision-making, productivity, and energy include:

• Building Trust

• Mastering Conflict

• Achieving Commitment

• Embracing Accountability

• Focusing on Results
