Tip 92: Communicating Change at Work

Change is a given. It is something we should be expecting and preparing for in our organizations. Effective leaders ask two questions to begin exploring a change process. Is change needed? And if the answer is yes, is this the right change?

How you explain and talk about change helps your team understand and embrace new processes. Change leaders explain the why….and then continue to communicate, communicate, communicate.

To begin formulating your message, consider the following questions:

  1. How will the change affect my team?

  2. How will I communicate this change?

  3. How will I follow up after I communicate this change?

To explore this week’s Leadership Tip further, reflect on the Communicating Change planner.
