Tip 188-Designing Developmental Plans 3: Results-Orientated Action Plan

Create an action plan based on the data and information you have gathered about the leader. Help the leader identify and access different resources and ideas that develop skills to achieve the stated objectives. Relating early successes to the leader’s priorities helps to ensure that the leader will stay active, involved, and committed to improvement.

Teach the leader how to brainstorm ideas and encourage them to apply what is learned in one situation to others. Model the attitudes and style that will be helpful traits for the leader to observe and recommend they observe several other leadership styles in a variety of settings and situations. Use this information to discuss the pros and cons of various leadership behaviors, helping the leader create their own personal and professional identity.
