Tip 147: Wellbeing Practices





Leadership plays a role in building a culture of wellbeing. As we being to think about our post-pandemic reality, this is the time to reflect on the progress made in employee wellbeing during the COVID-19 months. It is important for leaders to reinvigorate their efforts and continue to build wellbeing workplaces and cultures. Gallup authors, Dan Witters and Jim Harter, have identified 10 best practices for enhancing employee wellbeing in 2021 and beyond.


  1. Maintain a strong and sustained leadership voice regarding the importance of wellbeing.

  2. Demonstrate a shared and consistent definition of what is meant by wellbeing.

  3. Keep the line of communication constantly open.

  4. Lead by example.

  5. Include family members.

  6. Re-promote wellbeing programs and offerings.

  7. Scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of wellbeing programs.

  8. Leverage employee engagement to drive employee wellbeing.

  9. Develop a network of local wellbeing coaches and champions who serve as resources.

  10. Aim strengths at wellbeing.


Building a thriving and engaged wellbeing culture requires influence on these best practices. It is doable and within the reach of every organization.
